Make your own spooky tombstone-shaped tortilla chips by baking up flour tortillas. Pair them with our Tex-Mex-style 4-layer dip and you’ve got a frighteningly festive addition to your buffet table.
Ingredients
- 2 large flour tortillas
- 2 cups low-fat sour cream
- 1 (1 oz) pkg taco seasoning
- 2 avocados
- 1 tbsp lime juice
- ¼ cup chopped red onion
- 1 (16 oz) can refried beans
- 1 ½ cups mild salsa
- 3 green onions
- ⅓ cup sliced black olives
Steps
- Preheat the oven to 350°F. Using a knife or kitchen shears, cut the tortillas into tombstone shapes. Bake on a parchment-lined baking sheet until golden brown, about 7 min.
- Meanwhile, in a small bowl, combine sour cream and taco seasoning. Cut the avocados in half and remove the pits. With a spoon, scoop avocado flesh into a small bowl; mash and mix with the lime juice and red onion.
- In a small baking dish or pie plate, spread the beans in an even layer. Top with a layer of sour cream, followed by a layer of the avocado mixture. Finish with a layer of salsa. Garnish with chopped green onions and olives. Stick tombstone tortillas into the salsa.
Tips
Use a cake decorating pen or edible ink to write on the tortilla tombstones.
